What is the scheme?

IICSA was established in 2015, in order to investigate the extent to which state and non-state institutions across England and Wales failed in their duty of care to protect and safeguard children from sexual exploitation and abuse.

The investigation was launched in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal to examine how institutions responded to allegations of abuse in England and Wales – both in the past, and today.

During seven years of hearings, 725 witnesses gave evidence at a cost of £186.6m. After investigating abuse in places such as schools, children’s homes and religious institutions, IICSA has produced its final report.

Setting up a national Redress Scheme was one of a number of recommendations made by IICSA to compensate victims of child sexual abuse.

When will the Redress Scheme be open?

This has not yet been confirmed, however in our experience, such schemes can take several years to develop and implement. We will update this page as and when we have further details as to the progress of the scheme.

What will the scheme cover and who will be able to claim?

When the government made the announcement, it confirmed that the initial stages would involve a Consultation process. The consultation process would look at several things:

  • Who should be covered by the scheme

  • What remedies should be available under the scheme

  • The extent to which both state and non-state institutions should be involved in the scheme

How can I claim even if the scheme is not yet open?

Whilst the Scheme is not yet open for applications, we are happy to advise you now and discuss your potential eligibility to claim compensation under the scheme.

We can get your case ready so as soon as the scheme opens we can put your application in promptly.
