The Church of England is introducing a redress scheme for survivors of abuse within the Church.
The scheme is being set up as part of the Church’s response to criticism and findings made by The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA). One of the IICSA’s investigations focused on abuse within the Anglican Church.
The scheme is still in its developmental stages, with updates regularly being published. We will keep this page updated as further news about the scheme comes in.

If you are a survivor of historical or recent abuse within the Church of England, you may be entitled to recognition, support, and financial compensation.
The Church of England Compensation Scheme offers:
- Financial redress for the injuries you’ve sustained

How the Scheme Works
The proposed scheme follows a four-stage framework to assess claims and determine compensation:
- Stage 1 – Type of Abuse
Your application is assessed based on the abuse you experienced, with awards ranging from £5,000 to £150,000.
- Stage 2 – Aggravating Factors
Additional factors may increase your Stage 1 award by up to 100%.
- Stage 3 – Impact of Abuse
The effect of the abuse on your life is considered, potentially adding £10,000 to £250,000 to your award.
- Stage 4 – Exceptional Circumstances
In rare cases, a further 20% uplift may be applied.
How Long Do I Have To Claim?
The scheme is expected to run for five years once it opens.
